ASA 103
Basic Coastal Cruising
Description
The course is designed to teach you ASA103 basic cruising coastal cruising techniques, preparing you for a weekend coastal cruise, or short charter. The learning format is taught in a linear fashion:
Cruise planning and coastal navigation — planning your route.
Boat systems — what you must know about key boat system components (engine, fuel, water, electrical, safety, cooking).
Additional knots you may use while underway.
Harbor skills — departing and returning to a dock; fueling and fire prevention along with wastewater pump-out techniques.
Sailing techniques underway — tacking and gybing in pursuit of your destination; sail handling and trim; sailing in moderate weather.
Anchoring skills — when you’d like to take a break to dine or swim or used to stop the boat in case of challenges.
Additional crew recovery methods
Safety skills — looking after crew and prevention of sea sickness and hypothermia treatment.
This is a perfect course for those that will participate in your sailing adventure preparing them to be able bodied crew.
Learning Format
16-hours taught over two weekend days. Eight hours each day (8:30-16:30).

Prerequisite:
ASA 101 – Basic Keelboat Certification. We also recommend a minimum of 24 on-water sailing hours.
