Bareboat Chartering
Description
The course is designed to teach you ASA104 Bareboat Chartering Techniques preparing you for an extended sailing charter, nationally or internationally. This course will take you beyond the basics and delve into deeper discussion on important topics learned in ASA103 – Basic Coastal Cruising. We’ll start with:
Cruise planning — more in-depth planning discussions around fuel, water, meal, crew considerations and necessary sailing gear.
Coastal navigation and electronic navigation, looking more closely at tides and currents that will affect your cruise and route planning.
Emergency communication — flag etiquette, border crossings, and important “First Responder” sailboat and crew techniques when away from shore and hours from help.
Boat systems — more extensive boat system discussions and “how to” with key boat system components, including engine, fuel, water, electrical, safety, cooking.
Advanced knots you may use while underway.
Harbor skills — departing and returning to a dock.
Sailing techniques underway — tacking and gybing in pursuit of your destination; sailing in moderate weather; night sailing; more crew recovery methods; safety skills.
Towing a dinghy and managing an additional towed craft underway.
Advanced Anchoring skills, including using multiple anchors.
This is a perfect class to refresh cruising skills or teach your crew important skills necessary as “able bodied crew” in case they are called on for support before your cruising vacation.
Learning Format
16-hours taught over two weekend days. Eight hours each day (8:30-16:30).

Prerequisite:
The ability to demonstrate competencies in all knowledge and skills elements of those standards.
ASA recommends a minimum of 80 on-water sailing hours before undertaking ASA 104.
