Celestial Navigation Fundamentals
Description
This course takes students through centuries old navigation techniques, using a noon siting to confirm their vessel position when out of sight of land. This fun and informative course teaches the basic components of a sextant along with critical sighting and sight reduction techniques to plot their position. We’ll use of the nautical almanac to reduce our siting and understand planetary sun and moon movements. We’ll also learn about how time-zones are calculated.
Learning Format
8 hour course taught on weekends (10:30-15:30)
Learning Investment
$545 per person for each part of the course.
Optional ASA 107 Certification: $175
Requires additional 2 hours of on-water and test administration.
Prerequisites
None although Coastal Navigation Fundamentals or equivalent experience is necessary to get the most value from this course.
Locations
Wilmette or Waukegan Harbor.
